Listen to this song. But seriously, listen to this song.
I would have to nominate this as one of my favorite remixes of the year. The original song Cold Dust Girl is really catchy, and Gemini Club take it up about ten notches.
Hey Champ is an indie electronic duo out of Rockford, Illinois, which gave us the likes of rockers Cheap Trick — whom incidentally are cited as a major influence on their music. Hey Champ just released their first album — Star — this summer and it’s a good listen, feels perfect for a summer party or drive. I like them best on tracks like Neverest, where they channel a sort of New Order vibe, and So American where they pull out their inner Depeche Mode.
Gemini Club — an indie electronic trio out of Chicago — seem to be real upcoming stars in the electronic/dance scene, and are drawing rave reviews for their creative live shows. They released their debut EP — Future Tidings — this past August. Both bands have remixed each others’ songs, which I like, and they’ve done it really well.
This song clocks in at just over 8 minutes, which allows it to build and fall without feeling rushed. The first half is a strong mix that builds with its pressing keyboard chords and fun synthy beats. At around 4 minutes however, the song takes off and puts you in another world of headspinning bliss. Then at 6:50 the song tumbles majestically into the ending, leaving you feeling worn out and wanting more.
This is the original song from Hey Champ.
